Craving

Friday, May 8, 2015

Some people crave food. I crave words. Books. Stories. Tales that draw me into another world. A book that, when I open it, I'm transported somewhere else and forget where I am. Lately, that's all I crave. Stories.

I've been so busy lately that I haven't had time to just read. Not for school, but for pleasure. And I miss it. I can't wait for a time where I don't have to worry about assigned reading, and I can just immerse myself in stories for hours and hours.

I need to write. To lie in my room and create my own worlds. Worlds that I have total control over. Anything that I want can happen. Characters become my friends. They become a little part of me, and I get to tell their story.

I need words. I scroll through Pinterest, looking at quotes. Because to me, words are beautiful. With those 26 little letters, you can express anything. Joy. Sadness. Angst. Fear. Anger. Exhilaration. It's beautiful.

I crave words.

  1. I wrote a poem kind of like this for 7th grade English. I'm not really a poem person, but I spent a lot of time on it. I wrote about how I used writing and words to get out emotions because I used to be pretty shy thanks to my no-longer-friends (total jerks.). I cut the poem out and then filled a whole paper with words with really strong negative or positive connotations, and then I glued the poem to the front of that.

I don't know if that makes sense or not, but long story short, I feel ya.

  2. Okay I'm leaving lots of comments on this post just because I relate to it so much.

I've known that I wanted to be an author for pretty much ever and when I was younger I wrote as much I could. I tried writing two legit books, but neither of them ever got finished because honestly, they'd never get anywhere. But back at the end of 2013, I started writing a book called Too Good To Last, which is now finished. I've sent it to one publishing company and five agents. I got rejects (but really nice ones) from all but two agents and I'm still waiting for their response.

Anyway, I've been trying to get feedback from people who read a lot, but thats pretty hard because my friends aren't big readers and I honestly feel weird letting my family read it. I know its kind of weird because I don't personally know you but I’m still looking for people who enjoy reading enough to read it and know whether its good or not. I know you’re kind of busy now but during the summer if you want something to read I’d be happy to send you a copy of my story through email or something (if you don’t want to read it, thats fine, just wanted to put it out there.)

    1. That's so cool! I've always wanted to be an author too, but I've never finished a book. It's a goal though! That's so great that you've written one though:)

Wow, I'm flattered that you want me to read your story! I'd love to read it, but I don't give out my personal email. :/ I'm trying to think if it could be sent through blogger or something

    2. Thank you! It took me 11 months to get it on paper, then six months to get it edited (it would've taken shorter, but my computer malfunctioned and I almost lost the story ): Yeah, so it takes a lot of work, but anyone who has enough determination can do it, so keep trying!

Yeah I thought the email thing might be a problem. I've thought about making my own blog for the story, but that kind of scares me a little bit, seeing that anyone can go on it and copy my story. I don't want to take any risks with TGTL.

I'm so unfamiliar with Blogger or really anything computer, so I don't know of anything other than email, but I'll try to find some sending something.

    3. Oh wow! Yes I'll definitely keep trying!!

Yeah, that probably wouldn't be wise. You don't want it to be stolen..

      Okay!

  4. You're making me crave reading and creating. I used to read so much, finishing each book in 4 days. But now I literally read 5 pages a night, and it's taking me forever to finish a book. I just need a good one to come along. Something I can't put down. As for writing, I haven't done that in months. I want to though. I love creating worlds. I just don't have the time sometimes.

    1. I totally understand. I haven't had time or energy lately, but I'm counting down the days until I finally will have time!

  5. When you have time to go to the library or bookstore you should look up these:

Searching For Sky by Molly Cantor
The Walled City by Ryan Graudin (this book has a really dark premise, but the main characters make it way easier to get through the dark scary stuff (:
The Selection series by Kiera Cass (the last books is the best, but read all 3)
The Girl in the Wall by Daphne Benedis-Grab
Legend, Prodigy and Champion by Marie Lu (this series is amazing)
Fire and Flood by Victoria Scott
    Defiance by CJ Redwine
Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale (probably one of the best books of all time in my opinion)
Goodbye Rebel Blue by… um… forgot
    Blackout by Robinson Wells

This list probably isn't very helpful seeing that you don't have time right now, but these books are pretty darn good, so if you're ever wanting a book to read, these are options.

    2. If you don't have time to read all of them, go with Book of a Thousand Days. I think I've read it ten times at this point and it makes me so happy I almost cry in the end every time (: But if you end up a Shannon Hale fan, DON'T read Dangerous. Its horrible. I seriously want to unread that book.
