Christmas, New Year's, 2015 Recap, and Happy New Year!

Thursday, December 31, 2015

Wow, I haven't blogged in ages. Sorry about that. I'm not going to lie though, it's been kind of nice to "unplug". Having a chance to not worry about school, blogging, being constantly productive, or replying to every text message has been really nice. I honestly don't want to get back into the swing of things, because having this break has just been perfect. Things with school have been super stressful over the past month or so, and I really don't want to get back into that. *Sigh* I wish that time travel was a thing, because gosh, what I wouldn't give to be in elementary school again.

Christmas was absolutely wonderful. (Despite the fact that I've discovered I'm allergic to all of the dust that collects in Christmas trees...that's been fun.) We spent the morning opening presents at home, and then the rest of the day was spent at my grandparents' eating way too much food, opening more gifts, and having an epic Nerf battle with my cousins. (Which, my sisters and I totally won, despite what they may claim;) )

We went to see a big light display last night, which was fun. It's always super busy before Christmas, so we like to go after Christmas instead. Then tonight I'm going to go to a show with some friends, which I'm really excited for! Pretty great way to spend New Year's Eve, if I do say so myself.

2015

I can't wrap my head around the fact that it's almost 2016. It's so weird. 2015 has honestly been a really good year. It's had its ups and downs, but overall I have a lot of great memories of the year. Some of my favorites are-

  • Competing in my first-ever musical theatre competition, and winning FIRST PLACE in the ensemble division with a bunch of my best friends!
  • Seeing my favorite musical on the planet, Wicked, on tour!!
  • Doing stage tech for my sister's musical, and having a fabulous (although stressful and exhausting) time.
  • Hosting my first murder mystery party.
  • Going on a super-awesome beach trip!
  • Sang a solo without passing out or something else drastic.
  • I kept a journal for nine months
  • Tons of crazy-hilarious text conversations.
  • Obsessing over Dancing With The Stars
  • Hitting 13,000 pageviews on this blog!!
  • Speaking of blogging, the time when I freaked out a bunch of readers on April Fool's;)
  • Reading both the Harry Potter and Hunger Games series, and becoming 110% obsessed with them.
  • Also speaking of obsessing, getting hooked on Boy Meets World and Girl Meets World
  • Going to the premier of a movie that I was an extra in (don't freak out, it was just a small local thing. Still, pretty cool!)
  • Going to PROMMMM!!!
  • Completing the Summer Photo Challenge
  • Traveling to NEW YORK CITY for the first time! (Which I never actually blogged about...heh..probably should do that..)
  • Seeing The Lion King and Aladdin on Broadway, and getting to meet the Aladdin cast!!
  • Tons of different parties and sleepovers that were oh-so-crazy and oh-so-fun
  • Finally learning to do eyeliner!
  • Finding out that I'm going to get to be IN a musical this spring!!! (Oh my goodness, I'm excited. Working tech is SO much fun, but performing is my love.)
  • Starting to work on my novel (Hopefully I'll finish the first draft this spring)
It really was a great year. I'm curious to see what 2016 has in store!!

I haven't made a list of New Year's resolutions yet- to be completely honest, I can't even remember if I made a list last year. I think that I did, but I don't know what happened to it. I definitely want to do a better job of chronicling everything that happens this year; I really didn't do too great of a job of that in 2015. I did keep a journal from March onward, but it wasn't a consistent every day type of thing. Still, I'm really glad that I did that much. I have a few fun ideas for keeping journals this year that I'll be sharing here on the blog soon!!

One thing I really hope for in 2016 is for things to be calmer. There are many words that I would use to describe 2015, but "calm" is not one of them!! Things seemed to be constantly hectic, and there was a lot more drama than I would have liked to experience. I'm hoping for a bit of a reprieve from all of that in 2016, but I'm not going to lie, I'm not too optimistic haha!

Overall, I'm just hoping that 2016 is a year full of friends, laughter, good health, and good memories:)

2016- Bring it on!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!

Random Christmas Ramblings, White Christmas, and More!

Tuesday, December 22, 2015

I can't believe that Christmas is almost here...it's so crazy. This holiday season has just flown by. I love every minute of it, so I just wish that it lasted longer! As I type this, I'm curled up on the couch next to our Christmas tree watching White Christmas.

I swear, this movie never gets old. It's so perfect! I wish that I could have lived during this time period, the women were so classy, and I love the clothing and music. And the dance numbers are so beautiful. Vera-Ellen is so flawless, if I could dance like her, I could die happy haha. I'd love to do "The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing" for my senior project or something..now just to talk a guy into doing it with me!!

Just inserting some lovely White Christmas videos to brighten up your day...

I'm pretty sure that I could watch this basically every day and still love it.

Besides obsessing over classic Christmas movies, life has basically been full of trying to get ready for Christmas. I just can't get over the fact that Christmas is on Friday. It's been super fun these past few days, watching Christmas movies, listening to Christmas music, wrapping presents, and going to look at lights. A few nights ago, we drove to see this house that's super popular, and we had to wait an hour and a half! It was crazy. I love going to look at the lights though, they're so festive and pretty. We also went to this hotel downtown, they always have TONS of Christmas trees with different themes. I loved the Wizard of Oz tree, my Wicked fangirl self was of course freaking out haha.

I still have to decide what to wear on Christmas. It's going to be insanely warm here, like, 70-80 degrees! Typically I would wear a sweater or something, but I don't know what to do since it's going to be so warm. Any ideas festive, Christmas-y outfits that work for warmer weather?

I'm just so excited about everything. I'd write more, but I'm off to have way too much sugar and obsess over White Christmas. I hope that you have a wonderful few days getting ready for Christmas!!

Christmas Tag + Getting Tech-y!

Friday, December 18, 2015

Oh my goodness guys- it's one week until Christmas! That really freaks me out. Like, a lot. I absolutely adore Christmas, but I just wish that we had a couple of extra weeks to get ready and enjoy  the season. That being said, I'm determined to enjoy this next week as much as possible, and to be as Christmas-y as possible!! I found a great Christmas tag over at The Enthusiast, and I thought that it would be fun to fill out!

1. What is your favorite Christmas film?

It's a tie between White Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street. They're such classics, and I have to watch them every year or it just doesn't feel like Christmas!

2. Have you ever had a White Christmas?

I did once, a few years ago. It didn't snow a ton, seeing as I live in the South, but it was enough to stick, and it was just gorgeous. Gosh, I love snow.

3. Where do you usually spend your holidays?

We stay in town for the holiday season, and then on Christmas day we spend the morning at home, and then go to my grandparents' house for the rest of the day. It's so much fun!

4. What is your favorite Christmas song?

Hmm. Either White Christmas (surprise surprise) or The Christmas Song. They both just make me feel so warm and happy!

5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

Nope! We like to save them all for Christmas Day. : )

6. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer?

OF COURSE! Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and Rudolph!! Now I have Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer completely stuck in my head....

7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?

Well today we had our big Christmas cookie baking day, so that was a ton of fun. We make sooooo many cookies, it's wonderful. And then on Christmas morning we all sit around and take turns opening gifts, and then spend the rest of the day with my grandparents. It's so much fun, I absolutely cannot wait. No matter how old I get, I never lose my excitement for Christmas!!

8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Fake. We've had the same tree for as long as I can remember, and I just love it.

9. What is your all-time favorite holiday food/sweet treat?

Anything with sugar!! We have so many sweet treats that I just can't pick a favorite.

10. Be honest; do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?

Hmm. As fun as it is to receive gifts, it's seriously so much fun to work really hard on a present and then to see the person's face as they open it. I love it.

11. What is the best Christmas gift you've ever received?

Oh gosh. I've been lucky enough to receive so many amazing Christmas gifts over the years. I think I'm probably going to have to pick the tickets to see the Wicked tour that I received last year. Oh my word, that was the best show ever.

12. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

Honestly, I don't even know. I don't think that I'd want to be anywhere but home on Christmas. Although in the days leading up to Christmas, I think it'd be fun to be in New York City, to see the store windows and the gigantic Christmas tree.

13. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?

Well, I wouldn't say that I'm a pro by any means, but I've gotten a lot better over the last couple of years. I'm pretty proud of my progress haha! Although I can guarantee that every single year without a doubt, I WILL rip some wrapping paper.

14. Most memorable holiday moment?

...This is so hard! I really can't pick. Baking. Decorating. Driving around, looking at Christmas lights. Wrapping presents. Opening gifts as a family. Watching Christmas movies. I can't pick just one moment- the holidays are filled with such wonderful moments.

15. Do you make New Years resolutions? Do you stick to them?

Well, I have a total list-making obsession, so I always make New Years resolutions. I'm TERRIBLE at sticking to things, though, so 90% of the time I don't. To be completely candid, I don't even remember what my resolutions were for 2015. I know that I have them written down somewhere...

16. What makes the holidays special for you?

To go along with #14, there are so many things that make the holidays special. I guess just all of the fun, and all of the memories that are made every year. : )

-------------

I'm not doing the whole nomination thing this time around, but if you like the questions, please answer them!! I'd love to see you do a post of your own. : )

Christmas Gift Guide!

Monday, December 14, 2015

Is it just me, or can finding the perfect gift be really difficult? I'm always trying to figure out the perfect gift for friends and family, but it isn't always easy. I know that lots of people struggle with gift giving, so I thought that I'd make a gift guide for you all to hopefully spark some ideas!

(none of the images are mine)
~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Try Etsy! You can find some great stuff on there that's fairly inexpensive. This necklace is only $8, perfect for the Harry Potter fan in your life! They have fun items related to almost any book that your friend might like, or just some cool things in general.
2. Make a hot chocolate mix ornament! You can fill it with lots of yummy things, and it's a delicious, simple gift!
3. Speaking of ornaments, I think that these are absolutely adorable. You can get the tiny pieces of wood at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. I may have to try making a couple of these myself!
4. I think that this is absolutely the sweetest gift idea ever! Perfect for anyone that you care about.
5. A mani-pedi Mason jar would be a great gift to give to a friend! It's super simple to put together, and almost anyone would love it!
6. I like to call this the classic white girl kit. Starbucks cup, Target gift card, nail polish, lip balm, etc. I may have to put a few of these together this year!
7. If the person you're gift-hunting for likes to read, give them a book! Books are always a perfect gift, in my opinion.
8. Isn't this adorable? You could write any quote that your friend likes on their mug, and it would be a great, personal gift.
9. Handmade jewelry is so much fun to make and to give, and with so many tutorials online, it's easy to learn!
10. You could always hand paint a sign for your friend with one of their favorite sayings on it!
And hey- when all else fails- just get a gift card....
What are your favorite gift ideas?
Christmas Bucket List!!
Wednesday, December 9, 2015
Isn't Christmas so much fun?? I love this time of year. Everything seems to get super crazy though, and it's hard to balance everything. I just finished exams today, so I'm excited to have time to actually have a chance to get to do festive, Christmas-y things! I kind of have a thing for making lists, so I thought that I'd make a list of all the fun Christmas things that I'm hoping to do this year!
><><><><><><><><
Bake Christmas Cookies
Every year, we go to my grandma's house and do TONS of baking. We make an insane amount of cookies, bark, etc- it's so much fun, and so delicious!
><><><><><><><><
Drive Around Looking At Christmas Lights
There are some pretty great light displays around where I live, so it's really fun to pile into the car and go to look at the different houses! We went to a couple of different houses last year where you could actually get out and walk around, it was pretty cool.
><><><><><><><><
Make Lots of Christmas Presents!
I absolutely love giving handmade Christmas presents- they're so much fun to make and to give! I'm kind of behind on my gift planning, but I'm determined to get on top of it!
><><><><><><><><
Decorate My Room Even More
I really wanted to go crazy with decorations in my room this year, but I haven't had the chance. Even though it's late, I WILL DECORATE, AND IT WILL BE WONDERFUL!!
><><><><><><><><
Make Christmas Ornaments
I'd really like to hand-make some Christmas ornaments this year. Pinterest has some great idea for these gold Kate Spade inspired ornaments that I love. Hopefully I"ll get a chance to try!
><><><><><><><><
Go Shopping!
It's always so much fun to go shopping, hunting for the *perfect* gift! Everything is so festive, Christmas music is playing everywhere, it's just wonderful.
><><><><><><><><
Listen to TONS of Christmas Music!
I have a whole playlist of Christmas music, and I probably won't listen to anything else for the rest of December! (Like...even once Christmas is over.)
><><><><><><><><
Watch Christmas Movies Basically Every Day
Between Hallmark, ABC family, and our collection of holiday movies, there's literally no excuse to not watch a Christmas movie every day.
><><><><><><><><
Come Up With Creative Ways To Wrap Presents!
I love all of the cute gift wrapping ideas on Pinterest, and I'd love to try them out! Presents are always even more fun when there's a cute bow on top!
What do you want to do this holiday season?
Liebster Award!
Sunday, December 6, 2015
I'M SO EXCITED TO DO THIS!!! Thank you so much to Olivia over at Summer of 1999 for nominating me! She's one of my favorite bloggers, her blog is absolutely amazing. So if you're smart, you'll check her out right now! Plus, her tag questions are pretty awesome:) This is actually my first award/tag post! (note: I know that I did the Gratefulness Tag, but I was actually nominated for this first, and started writing it first...I just ended up posting the Gratefulness Tag before I posted this.) I'm pretty sure that I was nominated for one a while back, but being the bad blogger I am, I forgot...sorry about that! Anyways, I'm super excited to do this post!!!
My answers
>> Who is your favorite teacher you've had so far and why?
Oh goodness, this is hard! Probably my current dance teacher. She's SO amazing, I always learn a ton from her. Taking her class is one of my favorite things all week! She has choreographed a ton of different numbers that I've danced in, and they're always so incredible.
>> What do you do to destress?
I like to go to my room, put on some Ed Sheeran, and either read, hand-letter, or journal. It's seriously the most relaxing thing ever.
>> What is the first book you remember reading? or If you could choose one children's book to read to your child which would it be?
Oh my goodness. I really can't remember. I read CONSTANTLY when I was younger- I learned to read really early, and have had my nose stuck in a book ever since! I remember reading lots of Clifford picture books, and fairy tales, and when I got a bit older I loved The Babysitter's Club. As far as reading to my future child (gosh...no kids...nonono...), probably a big book of fairy tales. I absolutely adore them.
>> What is the last item you purchased?
The last item I purchased.....Oh! I bought a t-shirt for the upcoming Christmas production that I'm in. I also bought a Christmas present for my sister, which I cannot name because she reads this blog haha.
>> When and how does your family first begin to celebrate Christmas (if you do)?
We usually start with the decorations the week before Thanksgiving. We decorate our whole house, and we help decorate my grandparent's tree as well. In fact, as I'm typing this up (on the weekend before Thanksgiving), we're about halfway finished with the decorations and my dad is trying to get the Christmas tree lights to work. I need to try to put the tree in my room up soon...
>> If you could choose to have any color hair, what would it be?
Honestly, I'm really happy being blonde! If I had to pick a different color though...it would be interesting to temporarily have really dark brown hair, just because I'm curious what I would look like haha. And I've always thought it would be cool to have cotton candy pink hair but I have a *bit* of a hair dye phobia..
 >> Favorite movie that has come out in the last year (or two, whatevs)?
I actually don't know of a movie in the last year or so that I've loved..I really don't go to the movies all that much. Do Hallmark movies count? I'm going to say that they do. In that case, I'll recommend a couple- Love on the Air, Love by the Book, and A Novel Romance. Then again, I haven't seen Mockingjay Pt 2 yet, so that could go on that list as well.
>> Favorite book of the bible and short bit on why?
Gosh... either Psalms or Proverbs. I can't pick!!!! They're both just so great, and they're the ones that I find to be the most applicable.
>> What time do you usually go to sleep and wake up (psh what even is a sleep schedule)?
Well, I usually TRY to go to sleep around 11 - 11:30 but let's face it it's usually at least an hour after that. Sleep schedule...I don't even know what that is anymore.
>> Which Disney princess do you want to be when you grow up (because we all know this is an important decision that we're going to have to make at some point in our lives)?
^First off, yes, this is an extremely important question!! Hmm. This is probably the hardest question on here haha. Can I mix princesses? I want to have Rapunzel's hair, Elsa's strength, Ariel's fiesty nature, and Mulan's girl power!!
>> Well, I thought that I only had to come up with ten questions and I was happy with that last question
being my last one, but then I realized I had to do eleven. Soooo. Do you like to color with crayons, markers, or colored pencils?
MARKERSSSS! Crayons leave the little wax bits everywhere, and colored pencils just tend to get on my nerves with their scratching sound. I know, I'm weird.
>> BONUS: why are all these questions so child-ish???????????
BECAUSE YOU'RE AWESOME!!!
Blonde Takes On The Big Apple- Traveling!
Wednesday, December 2, 2015
Traveling:
We left for New York waaaaaaay too early for my tastes. As in, getting up at 5:30 a.m. early. Ouch. I'm seriously not a morning person, guys. But we were driving, and let's face it- NYC is pretty far away from the South. At least the time change worked in our favor- it felt more like 6:30. Early, but not as bad as it could have been.
I think that we ended up spending roughly around 12 hours traveling. It probably wouldn't have taken that long, but we stopped for food, had trouble navigating, etc. I spent most of the ride reading, listening to music, etc. (Also eating a cupcake, so that was pretty awesome)
Speaking of reading. Guys.
Have you ever read The Outsiders?
If you haven't, OH MY GOSH, GO TO THE LIBRARY RIGHT NOW.
This book. THIS BOOK. I'm going to have to review it. But it is such a soul crushingly beautiful book. Once I finished it, I honestly couldn't read anything else for a while. My mind was still trapped in that world. The Outsiders definitely changes the way you look at things, and it makes you appreciate the sunsets.
Gosh my mind is getting trapped in that world again I need to focus.
Anyways.
One thing that really surprised me about the drive up was how breathtaking the foliage was. It was past the peak leaf season, so I wasn't really expecting it, but oh my word. It was absolutely beautiful. The leaves were so bright, and the whole ride up was just gorgeous. That definitely helped with the whole stuck-in-the-car-all-day thing.
These pictures totally don't do it justice, but I thought I'd share them.
I also started Mockingjay in the car! BUT I ONLY READ THE FIRST HALF!! That was slightly torturous.
So that's how I spent most of the car ride, along with desperately texting my friend S and probably driving her out of her mind. I LOVE YOU!!!
We made it to Brooklyn that night, and I'm not going to lie, I was thoroughly terrified at first. If you've never been to Brooklyn, let me just give you this advice- try to arrive during daylight. Because at night it literally feels like you could die at any minute. We tried to get food and ended up at this super scary grocery store...you couldn't go anywhere without hearing swear words 24/7...it was all just a bit scary. We ended up finding food at a Shake Shack, which seemed to be the most popular restaurant in the city haha, I saw them everywhere! Anyways, it was kind of a weird first night in the city, I was a bit apprehensive, but I had no idea how much fun was to come! Can't wait to tell you all about it:)
Happy December!!
GUYSSSSSSSS
HELP
IT'S DECEMBER
HOW DID THAT HAPPEN??????
I told myself I was prepared. I told myself that it was fine, it was time for December, it wasn't a shock.
Then I woke up this morning, realized that it was December, and totally freaked out.
Like...it's Christmas season!! Christmas is in less than a month!! I'm not ready for this!!!
*inhale* *exhale* ....Okay.
I swear this has been the fastest semester ever. It's been crazy. It's been a good semester though. And despite my freak-out, I'm really excited about December. I love it, and the Christmas season is one of my favorite times of the year. Everything is so festive and warm, I just adore it. I've got a ton to do, as far as getting gifts ready for different people, but it's so, so fun. I'm kind of a Christmas fanatic, I'll warn you. I've been watching so many Christmas movies, and I've been listening to Christmas music since before Thanksgiving!! I may have a *bit* of a problem...
So, for November, let's see how I did on my monthly resolutions...
  • Bake more often- Pretty much an epic fail. The only things I really baked this semester were the chocolate pie I talked about for Thanksgiving, and then some holiday bark for a school fundraiser. December will be FULL of baking for Christmas though, so I'll make up for my lack of November baking!
  • Read Mockingjay - Success!! ...*sob*
  • Do AT LEAST one autumn themed craft- Well, I did the "Give Thanks" sign, so that counts as an autumn craft! I wish that I'd had the chance to do more, but I just didn't have time. *Sigh* Maybe I'll get to do some crafting this month.
  • Start working on Christmas presents so that I don't die in December- Success! I have a present for my sister and a present for my dad, as well as a few things for friends.
  • BLOG MORE OFTEN- I think I did alright with this resolution, I got 13 posts published in November. That's higher than usual, so I'm pretty happy with that haha. I'd like to try to get to fifteen eventually.
  • Drink more water- ..haha...nope....
  • Try to take more photos- Well, I took roughly 1,300 pictures while I was in NYC, so I'd say that I did pretty well!
  • Clean my closet- HA. I wish. I organized a shelf! Does that count? No? Okay..
  • Start watching Once Upon A Time- ...Oops. Sorry, S! I WILL TRY THIS MONTH!
So, I guess it was about half and half. I didn't do great, but it wasn't a total fail month, so I'll take it!
December Resolutions-
  • Get Christmas presents done at the BEGINNING of the month, instead of going crazy at the last minute. (This will probably be a fail)
  • BLOG MORE OFTEN (This is a constant resolution)
  • Drink more water
  • Deep-clean my room
  • Start watching Once Upon A Time
  • Do some Christmas themed crafts
  • Read two new books
Hopefully I'll do better on these resolutions. Y'all are totally welcome to harass me about getting this stuff done!!
The highlight of my November would have to be going to NYC, which I still have to post about! It was such a great experience:)
I'm really excited for this month, though, and I can't wait to see what it has to bring. Well, except for midterms- agh. I may possibly fail Anatomy. But I'm going to be positive, and not think about that right now! I'm going to focus on the positives, like winter break, and CHRISTMAS!!!! My excitement for Christmas is through the roof right now.
Can't wait to see what you have to bring, December!
