Book Sale Haul!!!!

Tuesday, August 18, 2015

Hello, lovely people of bloggerland!!! How are you all doing?

On Saturday, I spent the morning at this really big used book sale. It's so incredible- you wouldn't believe the size of this sale. They have an insane amount of books, I've literally gotten lost there before. (I may be somewhat directionally challenged...)

Book sales are one of the only occasions on which I will willingly get up early. Mornings + me do not mix. Ever. But I tend to make an exception for gigantic book sales. I always want cheap books!! This sale is held every year, and I've probably gone at least four times. It's so much fun!

Anyways, I thought that I'd show you some of the books that I was most excited to pick up!

Trust No One: Trust No One is one of the few 39 Clues books that I didn't own, so when I found it for $1, I absolutely HAD to pick it up! Now I'm only missing three- Nowhere To Run, Breakaway, and Countdown. I was super happy to find this!

The Hunger Games: I've been wanting to read this book for a while now, and I finally picked up a copy at the sale for around $3.00. I'm excited to read it- it's honestly pretty pathetic that I'm just now getting around to it, considering how much that I read. I mean, how long have these books been insanely popular? Yet I'm just now getting to them. Oh well. I feel like "better late than never" seems to be my motto lately...

The Hangman's Curse: This book is by Frank Peretti, and while I've never read one of his books before, my mom has told me that he's a really great author. I haven't started it yet, but from what I can tell it looks really cool. The book description looks kind of creepy- this may be a book to read in broad daylight!!

13 Gifts: 13 Gifts is one of the books in the Willow Falls series by Wendy Mass, which is one of my favorite series. I don't own any of the other books in the series, but since I found this one I absolutely had to grab it. I need to do a post on the Willow Falls series soon, but for right now I'll just say that I definitely recommend them!

Prescription For Murder: I may or may not have a *teensy* obsession with the show Murder, She Wrote, and the fact that there are Murder, She Wrote books as well makes things even better! The murders are absolutely fascinating, and the books are really funny as well. (Also, if you're familiar with these characters- apparently there's a lot of Jessica/Seth in this book. I'm so excited!!! I totally ship them...) I can't wait to read this one!!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: You all know about my major obsession with Harry Potter, but I didn't actually own any of the books- until now!! (Can we just have a moment of appreciation for libraries? They're amazing!) Anyways, I'm thrilled to have gotten this one, especially for only $2. It was so crazy though- they were completely sold out of Harry Potter books after ten minutes. I didn't even find this with the Harry Potter books, my mom found it somewhere completely random. Hey, at least I got one!!!

Every Soul A Star: I've been raving about this book a lot lately, I know. Sorry about that! I originally picked it up at the library, and since I loved it so much, I decided to actually buy a copy at the sale. It was two or three dollars, which I thought to be well worth it. I'll be reading this book over and over again!

Nightmare Academy: This is another Peretti book, and it looks just as cool as The Hangman's Curse. I'm really excited to read this- I need to start before school starts shoving me underneath the waves of stress until I'm drowning.

Book sales are seriously the best. I was a bit disappointed because I didn't find some of the books that I was hoping to (If you've ever recommended a book to me on here, it was probably on my list!), but I'm happy with what I did get!

Do you love book sales as much as I do?

Do you have any good book recommendations?

  1. Awesome ! I wish there were more book sales near where I live :)

  2. Trust No One was my favorite out of the CvV series. It was loaded with tension and then it had Amy losing it in the best way out of all the other books (it looked more like mental trauma than teenage angst, which a lot of the books did) and at the end Day Of Doom pretty much had the 39 Clues world at it's feet. All in favor of a DoD rewrite *raises hand as high as it can go* I wish I owned Trust No One.

Oooh yay you got The Hunger Games! Just warning you now- don't start this book when you've got a lot of things to do during the day, or at night when you're supposed to be sleeping. You have to have a ridiculous amount of self-control to stop at the end of a chapter, Suzanne Collins puts cliffhangers everywhere.

Chamber of Secrets was my favorite of the HP series. I just love all the mystery that went along with it. I used to have it, but it was paperback and I have little siblings…so I no longer own it.

Oh my gosh it sounds so nice to be getting decently in shape books for under five dollars! I don't have those where I live. We have a decent-sized Barnes and Noble but getting a nice, hard-cover book is upwards of 20$ so I don't get new books very often.

    1. Yeah, it was represented a whole lot better in TNO than it was in the other ones. It seemed so much more realistic. *raises both hands in the air*!!!!

I'm so excited! Haha okay, thanks- that's a good warning! Knowing me I would just throw away everything that I need to do and spend an entire day reading it. xD Now I'll plan on it!!!

I loved Chamber of Secrets too! I'm in the middle of re-reading it right now. :) Ouch, little siblings and paperbacks....not good.

It really is fabulous! Ouch, yeah, Barnes and Noble is usually really expensive. I usually just end up browsing, and adding every book that I see to my library list haha!

    2. "There will be no rewrite" *puts hand down and slaps Baldacci in the face*

I usually don't even read books that are all that popular but Hunger Games deserves it's hype unlike some other series I know *cough cough Twilight cough cough*. It's drives me crazy when people compare the two. They're nothing alike, so don't be expecting pedophile vampires. When I first read THG I had a really bad fever, so my body kept trying to make me go to sleep but I couldn't because I had to finish the book haha.

I also loved that one because Ginny and Harry were like my HP OTP from the very first book and I loved that he went to get her out of the Chamber ( :

Yeah same. I recommend books at my school library but sometimes the librarians aren't allowed to get certain books because there's a really strict protocol on what the book content is so my book shelf is filled with a bunch of dark books since those were the ones I ended up needing to buy haha.

    3. *fangirls begin to plot Baldacci's demise*

Ugh, Twilight should not be compared to anything. Just no. Haha, oh my goodness, that's so funny! That sounds like something that I would do xD

Ahhhh yes!!! That part was so great!

Haha! *Someone looks at the bookshelf* "I'm sane I promise!!" xD I hate it when there's protocol on book content though, that's always soo annoying!

    4. I'm seriously surprised that there hasn't been anything on the news about a certain author being attacked by fangirls yet.

It's frustrating to people trying to get a book published when they see things like Twilight and Fifty Shades of Gray getting made into MOVIES and getting millions of dollars while you're pitching your story going, "Well, in my book we have love interests that human and sane, so please publish it."

But The Hunger Games deserved to get movies made out of them and the movies are almost perfect adaptations of the book (some people didn't like the first one, but I thought it was good). Plus, The Hunger Games isn't about a love triangle, unlike Twilight.

My sister used to tease me about how Ginny and Harry almost never talked in the earlier books and when I read the epilogue (waaait, you are finished with the book right? I feel like I read that you finished somewhere but just in case you didn't this will be a spoiler) I was practically shoving the book in her face.

I know! The book The Walled City has the words "Run fast. Trust no one. Always carry your knife" on the back of it and my mom looked at it once and just went, "Yeah, Abby, always carry your knife. Great message.". The protocol drives me crazy. I don't get how some books with darker themes get shot down but the last book of Twilight (wherein Bella gives birth to monster baby that breaks her spine) is allowed.

Sorry if I hate on Twilight too much I just can't stand the books or how smug the author is about them.

    5. I can't believe it. Let's face it, it's going to happen sooner or later...

It's SO annoying!! "Hi, sorry that my book isn't dumb, but will you please publish it?"

Yeah, I've heard that the movies are actually really good! I'm waiting to read the books first, and then I'm definitely watching the movies!!

Haha! Yes, I finished the last book, so you don't have to worry about spoilers:) Ginny and Harry are seriously adorable together...

"Always carry your knife. Great message." XD Oh my gosh, I'm laughing so hard right now...that's perfect. I don't understand that either!! It makes absolutely no sense. Can we please ban Twilight everywhere?

You definitely don't hate on it too much- it's awful!

    6. So right now I'm trying to get an agent for my book so I've been sending it out to different agents. I'm working on writing a new batch of queries to send to them and I considered sending to this one lady…and then I found out she agented for the Twilight saga. I told myself it didn't matter, that I should just send it to her anyway, but I was trying to write the query letter and try to appeal to her company and all I could think was "How did you find 100 year old vampires lusting over a teenage girl appealing? How?" So I axed that one and found someone else.

The second movie (and second book) are the best, but I have high hopes for the last movie (out November 20 *fangirls*). You have to read the books to get the full experience though. Plus, there's Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Sam Claflin, so that's another reason to watch them…

I'm glad I have the clearance to hate on it…I just can't when it comes to those books. Recently my family went camping and we stopped in Forks, and there was Twilight propaganda everywhere…it nearly killed me.

    7. Oh, good luck on your book!!!! Oh gosh....I wouldn't want to sell to that lady either. How did ANYONE find that appealing? When I went to the book sale, I'm pretty sure there were forty copies of Twilight that no one was touching xD

Yeah, I"ll definitely read the books first. Ahh, I love Jennifer Lawrence so much!!!

Oh, you definitely do. My gosh, that would have killed me too....why can't those books just disappear?

    8. Thank you! I've been procrastinating soooo much with it, but I'm thinking that I'll have my letters sent to the agents next week. I'm glad society has realized it's wrongs and isn't buying that garbage anymore.

She's great. She just embraces her personality and that says a lot for someone that famous. I'm usually know nothing about celebrities but I know pretty much everyone in the Hunger Games cast… even the ones that died in the first movie… does that make me weird haha? People who complain that the movie was confusing when they haven't read the books bother me so much / :

I was like, "Why do these people WANT to be known for Twilight? If I lived here I'd probably put a sign in my yard saying that I DIDN'T support Twilight!"

      Delete
    9. Ooh, that's fabulous!! Really though- people are finally starting to learn!!

Haha nope, not weird at all!!! Ugh, that's annoying. JUST READ THE BOOK!!!

That's crazy!! I would have the exact same sign. -_-
